Santiago de Chile and not de Compostela

Who would have thought that my first Santiago would be the one in Chile and not the one in Galicia. But here we go, we spent a weekend in Santiago de Chile. An interesting city for sure. Our hotel, the Marriott, is in the very middle classy area of Las Condes, Santiago's trendy and well-off eastend, maybe comparable with London's Shoreditch.

If Santiago does things middle classy and right it can be compared with California, once it does it working classy it can be seen like the outskirts of Africa. Today we walked around a very hipster-like Bicentenario Park and the mid-town La Vega and Central markets. What a contrast. In the markets I did not even dare take my phone out and take a picture. But it was cool. I've never seen anything like that. It was massive and crazy, and admittedly ever so slightly scary.

Yesterday we visited the cathedral and the art museum. The cathedral was great, the art museum empty. Literally emmpty. It was a cool building though.

During the last 2 days we never saw the hills in the city and Andes Mountains as it was so hazy. Only tonight it cleared a little and one could see a little bit which looked like a mountain in the distance. All in all, a cool city, but I think a few days is more than enough. Tomorrow we are off to Rapa Nui, the Easter Island.
